How to knit a traditional Scottish Hap
Saturday morning (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
This class requires homework, please click on the link below.
In this 3-hour workshop, you will knit a Mini Scottish Hap, a traditional square shawl construction historically used for warmth, practicality, and beauty. Alongside hands-on knitting, we’ll dig into the why behind the hap: where it comes from, how it was used, and what makes it different from other lace shawls. You will begin your hap by knitting the lace edging and learn how this unique construction grows inward toward the center. Homework will allow you to complete the edging at home so you are ready for the next stages of hap construction.
Supplies needed:
Lace 2-ply yarn, about 200 yards.
Size US 5 (3.5mm) circular needles.
Waste yarn (smooth yarn in same or lighter weight as working yarn, in contrasting color).

Pattern Red Flags
Saturday afternoon (1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.)
Ever knit from a pattern and have problems? Did you think it was you? Well, maybe it was the pattern and not you!! In this class, we'll talk about some things to look for that indicate a pattern might pose some problems. Some things might be obvious, but others might not. We'll also cover some things to look for in patterns to determine if something will fit how you want it to, whether it's for a sweater, other garments, or an accessory like socks and hats. Learn to be a smart pattern picker!
What to bring: One or more knitting patterns that you have had trouble with. Pencil, paper, measuring tape.
